Our most eco-friendly mailing bags are home compostable - they can go in your garden composter for easy disposal at the end of their life.
They are made from potato starch and other biologically sourced polymers, are plasticizer and GM free. Biobased carbon-share of the formaulation exceeds 30%.
These C4 mailing bags are milky-white and slightly silky in texture due to the nature of the material. They are not opaque, but semi-transparent.
The film is certified as Compostable according to EN31432, and has achieved the 'OK Compost Home' certification by Vincotte. The bags are clearly marked as Home Compostable and display disposal advice on the flap, along with a safety warning notice.
Due to the nature of the material - the self seal flap will not make a permanet seal straight away but may require several hours at room temperature before fully cured.

What happens if these bags end up in landfill? These bags are designed to be disposed of by composting - either at home or in an industrial composter. The good news is that if they do end up in landfill, they won't release anything environmentally harmful into the soil or environment (including methane), and they are biodegradable. However it is not the ideal way to dispose of them and they will take some time to disappear. How long depends on lots of factors so we cannot say .
I’m thinking of switching from plastic mailing bags to these – what are the main differences? The main difference between a Polythene mailing bag and these mailing bags are that these bags are not clear, and not opaque, but they are semi transparent. They also have a different feel. These bags feel slightly silky. But if you use a light or medium duty mailing bag and don’t need the contents to be concealed you may find that these are a good, eco-friendly alternative. We would always recommend a sample first to make sure they are right for you.
Is the peel off strip on these bags compostable too?Unfortunately not. Currently we cannot supply the bags with a peel off strip which is also compostable, so it will need to be recycled along with other recyclable Polythene.
