Our back to school checklist for 2021

It’s that time of year again, with the familiar rattle of pencil cases, breaking in of new shoes and the obligatory photo as children across the nation head back to school.

While this year remains different to previous ones, we’re asking all parents whether they’ve done their homework and got all the essential back to school items in place now the autumn term has started.

Whether your youngsters have started primary school or are embarking on their first year of secondary school, or even off to college, we’ve mapped out a checklist of essentials to ensure they are well prepared for the academic year ahead.

From stationery to uniforms, going back to school has never been easier with help from Transpack’s essentials back to school checklist.

Uniform

While it may only feel like you’ve recently covered off the school unform, it is time to do it all over again. School requirements will vary, but as a general rule, here’s our basic uniform list:

  • Polo shirts or button-down shirts or blouses – three or five depending on how dirty your child is likely to get.
  • Two jumpers or cardigans.
  • Shoes – leather are highly recommended, as these are durable, breathable and can be protected. Patent leather is also easy to clean so should also be considered.
  • Socks (white, black or grey depending on school requirements).
  • Two pairs of grey or black trousers, short, skirts or skorts.
  • A waterproof coat.
  • School tie (depending on school’s requirements).
  • A blazer with the school crest (depending on school’s requirements).

We recommend purchasing school uniforms in a slightly bigger size to allow your child room to grow into it throughout the year.

PE kit

PE kits often get lost, misplaced, or become so dirty that they often need replacing, so we recommend sticking to affordable items that can be easily replaced and that aren’t too hard on your wallet, such as:

  • Socks (white, black or grey depending on school requirements).
  • T-shirt or polo shirts.
  • Water bottle.
  • Gym shoes or trainers.
  • PE bag.

Stationery

No back-to-school month is complete without an investment in stationery. While primary school children will be provided with the stationery supplies and books they need, it is likely that once secondary school is reached, your child will be expected to bring their own stationary supplies to school.

However, we guarantee that there are some items that have been missed off the list.

Stationery essentials

No backpack is complete without the following items:

  • Pencil case – whether tin or zip up, there’s plenty to complement your child’s unique style.
  • Lined notebooks.
  • Selection of pens – always purchase a few as a back-up.
  • Highlighters – for those all-important notes and lists.
  • Pencil sharpener.
  • Ruler – save space with a foldable one.
  • Colouring pencils.
  • Glue stick.
  • Maths set.
